dandelions & crabgrass
together– almost summer

the ox stands alone
in our neighbours’ yard.

watching
glow-flies or pieces
of this quiet night

counting the branches
& blossoms together–
counting again
[after Basho]

the wind suddenly–
how many leaves
in the air?

I remember this time when
I was at Van Gogh exhibition
in Amsterdam museum of art,
and now I can recall all the colors
all the shades, all the frames,
how these nuances and tinctures
exploding in my eyes and brain.

with their long legs, low cut skirts, their

Narcissus and Echo

My ear leans into my echo
as a narcissus leans over
its reflection;
I scan this page
to gather the reflection
of my words
and I see that this biography
requires the reader
to come part way to the poem so that the truth that lies somewhere between them can be illuminated.

Corriecravie / Torr A’Chaisteil

Overlaid with silken lanolin, his worn and callused hand
grips mine. I want to hold on, learn about its lines,
its edges, that softening glaze. We’ve just seen him
bearing a fleece like a saddle into his barn, parked
our rental car by his drive, stopped to ask if he minded.
