Garden Sprite

Clay wings draped
in gentle demeanor
over cherub form
a glazed angel
holding a cluster
of ripe grapes
stands serenely
in store window
symbol of times past
when the century was young
and innocence and charm
knew their rightful places.

Margaret Fletcher was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland but has lived in Sarnia, Ontario for many years. She is author of six poetry collections, four chapbooks, a short story collection, a full-length play on Emily Carr, and her work has appeared in literary journals such as Antigonish Review, West Coast Review, Small Pond, Poetry Australia and others. A member of the Writers’ Union of Canada, and several poetry groups, she is married with five grown daughters and numerous grandchildren.
