Fat Elvis

Once upon a time
you made love like young Elvis
before pills and peanut butter sandwiches
got a hold of him

Bank notes were the sideburns
you draped across your face-
reaching for the benediction of your lips

The bond yields sung as hymns-

Then your time finally came;
martyrdom picked you out like a fashion princess

you walked away
with your wife a pillar of salt and marital abscess

the convex curves of easy money
flattened
much like the emotions of your style
later in life,
making love like Fat Elvis.
