Inside Shells
He dips hands
in dawn-stained tide
and raises diamonds
to the sun
trailing exploded tears
and promises fulfilled
Sinking down
in the saffron sand
with the birthright
of total majesty
on his knees
in an ancient surrender
Watching him so
a shallow heart
finds plenitude
and can turn homeward
trailing sand
and a handful of shells
