surreptitious look
the Asian girl checks her face
in a blue mirror
black cascading curls
Yuko makes her ponytail
the rubber band snaps
purple nail polish
Yuko grabs the steel handrail
a second too late

I can see this poem and the subway too….strong images form a feeling of suspense.
