bring me my bones
bring me my bones all soaked in shadow
bring me my flesh all stained in mystery
bring me my blood and muscle
all covered in stories
and I will spin for you a tale
with all the words
my mouth can shape
bring me my bones all soaked in harrow
bring me my flesh all stained to the marrow
bring me my blood and tissue
all covered in sorrow
and I will make a dance for you
from all the movements my heart has ever made
bring me my bones all soaked in despair
bring my flesh all stained in regret
bring me my blood and muscle
all covered in history
and I will open wide my throat
and sing,
the sweetest love song from the deepest deep,
for it is only by passing through the centre of loss
that love itself can become as big as it needs to be.
bring me my bones all soaked in honey
bring my flesh all stained in lavender
bring me my blood and muscle
all covered in dew
and I will paint for you a picture
with all the colours my eyes have ever held
bring me my bones all soaked in my stories
bring me my flesh all painted in memories
bring me my blood and my muscle
all covered in sound
and I will carve for us a table from them
so that we might
sit,
eat,
drink,
weep,
laugh,
howl,
sing
and share with each other
the better parts of our souls.
